Why I Joined Kappa Alpha Theta
By: Milina Capoccitti
Coming from a very tight knit community in my high school because of my high involvement with my schools’ music program, I felt like I had lost a passion in my first year of university when I had not joined anything on campus. I lived in apartment style residence and loved it but also realized I had not made too many real friendships due to the confinement I had to just my floor. Coming into second year my roommates and I all decided to go through recruitment in order to expand our horizons and hopefully make some great friendships.
After crying at Theta preference night because of the strong connection I felt to the organization and the theta who pref’d me (who is now my big!) there was no doubt in my mind that I had found the sorority for me, and I am so endlessly grateful for everything theta has given to me since that night. I have never wanted to be so involved with something! I have joined every council I could and have attended as many theta related events and hang outs as possible just because I want to give back everything I can to the organization that has already made me a better woman than I was before in the short time I’ve been in it!
Now, I am going to be living with three other Thetas in my third year and I know that if I ever need anything I have 80 other amazing women to lean on, all with different talents and personalities but united by their love for Theta and all that it stands for. Theta has not only given me new passions in my life, but also a place where my sisters consistently bring me up and inspire me to be the best leader I can be. Without them Western would not be the same, and I would not have found the women who have not only made my university experience, but will become my bridesmaids, and will no doubt be there for me through the highs and lows of my life. I have finally found my home, filled with faith, hope, and love.
